Artist Talk at the Corner House Cafe “Photography and the Print”

Please join us for a unique presentation “Photography and the Print” by photographic artist and printmaker Christopher L. T. Brown. With such a rich history of technologies and techniques available to photographers we often limit ourselves to only the latest and greatest tools or a single aspect of photography. This presentation and discussion will explore some of the many facets of photography and printmaking available today and how you can incorporate the old with the new to create a work of art rather than simply “take the shot” for those “nice capture” comments on social media. The intent of this presentation is to help photographers discover their own unique style and bring their work to life.

When: Saturday August 5th from 4:00 to 5:00 PM

Where: Corner House Cafe 2902 San Marcos Ave, Los Olivos, California 93441

Back To Work

Still not 100%, but I’m back to work. No real hiking, but shooting from the truck feels great. I’ve been working on several projects; photographic series’ as well as new presentations I will roll out this year. One thing I can’t help notice on my shoots is the devastation of trees in our local Los Padres National Forest. Thousands of pines visibly dead or fallen due to the drought and bark beetles. You could also make the argument that the drought has made many of the otherwise healthy trees more susceptible to the bark beetles. In the lower altitudes many of the oaks are also dying and falling. It’s a little harder to notice all the oak damage since they seem to go from the inside out and simply start dropping limbs or fall all together. While it’s hard to look at, your have to remember that this is all part of the cycle of life and there are also a lot of new seedlings sprouting do to a better than average rain this year.  If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or other Social media, then you’ll see a lot of my works related to this devastation. Links to my social media outlets can be found in the “Contact” page.

Out of the Woods

Great news! I had spinal fusion surgery on the 3rd of April and I’m getting around much better than I though I would at this point. While this will be a long term healing process, I am starting to get out and about and expect to be driving by the end of the week. I’ve been working in the studio and already getting prepared for some new presentations of my work for this years shows. While I don’t think I’ll be exhibiting at open air art shows anytime soon, I do intend to exhibit new work in my gallery as well as other venues. I am also available to open the gallery for private viewings as needed. A big thank you for all the get well cards and notes.

As some may have noticed I have been especially quite in recent months. My back has become more problematic over the last year and finally reached a point where it needs some professional attention. In light of this I will be out of commission for the next couple of months and unable to return calls, emails or fulfill orders in April and likely May. The good news is that when I return, if all goes well, I will return better than ever. I am very optimistic and have many exciting projects in the works for this summer. Thank you for all your support.

Outdoor Show and Gallery Hours for 2016

Great news for 2016 outdoor art shows from Santa Ynez Valley Arts. We have moved last years “Art in the Park” from Los Olivos to Santa Ynez and changed the even name to “Art in the Courtyard”. In making this move we will be able to extend the number of shows greatly as well as provide more indoor display space in a museum setting. Art in the Courtyard will be held on the second Saturday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at the following location:

The Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum

& Parks-Janeway Carriage House

3596 Sagunto St, Santa Ynez

2nd Saturday of the Month

Beginning with a kick-off “Art in the Courtyard” event coinciding with the Valley-wide Annual “Free Museum Day” on March 5. Stop in for some fresh popcorn, explore the museum, and meet with the artists!

“Art in the Courtyard” will continue throughout 2016 on the Second Saturday of each month, from 11am-4pm (unless otherwise noted). Admission to the museum will also be free on the exhibit days. I will be located inside the carriage house on the end by the large open doors.

  • March 5 (extended hours 10:00 – 4:00 for kickoff weekend)
  • March 12 (11:00 – 4:00)
  • April 9 (11:00 – 4:00)
  • May 14 (11:00 – 4:00)
  • June 11 (11:00 – 4:00)

2016 is off to a great start!

Wild Boar Study #1

After some much needed downtime 2016 is off to a great start. I will be on the board of the “Santa Ynez Valley Arts” this year. We are working hard to bring some wonderful events to the valley. As always, we will be hosting art from our members at Gallery Los Olivos with several award shows and other special showings throughout the year. We also have moved Art in the Park from Los Olivos to Santa Ynez in the Historical Museum courtyard and carriage house. This show will feature my work and many of the same artists as last year. “Art in the Courtyard” will be held on the second Saturday of each month and the museum will also host a free museum day on our show days. We will be kicking off “Art in the Courtyard” in March with two shows on the 5th and 12th. Our Annual Quick Draw festival will be moved to November this year (much cooler) and be part of an overall “Arts Festival Weekend” featuring many events throughout the valley. For more information on these as well as other art events see the Santa Ynez Valley Arts web page at

The work you see above titled “Wild Boar Study #1” will be part of the juried show at Gallery Los Olivos beginning next week on February 2nd. I just finished the series and framed this work today.  This work is a signed edition of only 2 and measures 19 x 22.5 inches without the frame.
