Artists Guild of Santa Ynez Valley – Artist Of The Month

I’m happy to announce that I have been selected as the Artists Guild Of Santa Ynez Valley, Artist of the Month for February 2014. In line with this selection I will be showing selected works from my Oak Trees of Santa Ynez Valley series in the guild room at Gallery Los Olivos. The show will be on view from Wednesday, February 5 to Wednesday March 5. We plan to have an opening reception with the date to be determined later. I am honored to be selected as the guild’s Artist of the Month and hope you can stop by to enjoy some of the local wines and the show.

Welcome December

There have been a lot of great things going on here in Santa Ynez Valley.  In news from the gallery, I have added a selection of Canvas Giclée work in varying sizes up to 40 x 60. As always these are hand printed by me.

As expected my little gallery is starting to burst at the seams, so we have started rotating work into and out of storage and other show venues.

I received the digital copy of the December issue of Rangefinder and found that my work “Working for Breakfast” placed third in the “Best Shot” People category. It’s somewhat crazy to me to place in the same contest two years in a row and I remain very honored for the selection.

On the printing front, I have always been very happy printing 16 x 20 inch Giclée as the “large” print in my limited editions. This has been good from a storage space standpoint as well. My Epson 3880 is a workhorse and the K3 pigmented inks are rated at over 200 years archiveability. I had considered investing in a much larger printer for some time. While many people outsource large printing, I’ve just never been happy outsourcing what I consider a crucial part of the creative process. Well… I finally took the plunge and can now print up to 44” wide with the Epson 9890. The first large prints have been very impressive. Several of the first prints are now in the gallery. Some work just looks great large.
